Hawaii Islands Notes 93 and 94
The Winter of 93/94 was my first time on the islands, after two previous attempts in 1988 and 1992 brought me to Florida and Mexico. December 1993 I made it for the real one. After a cold stopover in Boston, I changed plane one more time in Los Angeles and then arrived in steamy hot Honolulu. My rental car turned out to be a blue Chevy with possibility to sleep comfortable. Already on the first day Kapiolani Park east of Waikiki became my first place of rest and should be my favorite for many years to come.
After one week, with the occasional visit on the North Shore I found myself as active participant in another sport: running. The Honolulu Marathon was great, good fun running with the 25000 participants in the sunny east of Honolulu.
Visiting a neighbor island I choose the Big Island of Hawaii for almost a week. Volcanoes and black beaches were fun, as the days in Triathlon country, the north shore around Kailua-Kona.
