JahTours International in 1981

Jah Tours Spring 1981:

This year I put considerable effort in preparing the spring biketour and it paid out well. I made the whole German national road B3 south, passed quickly through western Switzerland and let myself blow south in the Rhone valley. With enough time during Easter vacations I followed the Mediteranean coast through the South of France and made it into Spain! The Costa Brava has exciting coastal roads but no Youth Hostel at the time. After several fresh nights outside I went for the Cote d'Azur where I paused in Frejus for a week before coming to Menton.

No train-taking this year I drove all the way back to Northern Germany again. The total tour was 3600 kilometers in four weeks, a good progression from last year's.

1981 was the last year for my Inter Rail experience. I had been in many places all over southern Europe. This year I hitchhiked to Greece first, then took the train to Menton where I met a friend and we went to Spain and Portugal. She then had to go home and I went back to Menton for a few weeks of Summer madness on the beach. This year I was in the classic spot in front of the Helios and I also started to organize tours and cars. During the day we got a lot of guests from the campground, a lot of people came from Italy because they found Menton more attractive.

Hitchhiking with company was faster

Menton Beach was quickly washed away

After the very good summer I had a little time in september and went for a 5-day hitchhiking trip to Menton. The day when I arrived was nice and sunny with very clear air. In the evening a storm front moved through and the next day the beach was was full of washed up branches and parts from one of the rafts. I then came back in october for a more peaceful week in the autumn sunshine. Water usually is nice until November, most of the time it was ok for shorts and T-shirt. Not many pictures from Menton during that trip, I stayed most of the time in Monaco. When I hitchhiked back to Germany mid-october I had to spend a very cold night on the motorways before reaching the north. To conclude with this year full of travel I bought my fourth and last InterRail ticket and went to Morocco in Winter 81/82.
